WASHINGTON — Three people were hurt in a shooting in the Del Ray neighborhood Thursday afternoon. The suspect is at large.

Alexandria police say three people were shot in the 400 block of East Howell Avenue around 1 p.m. — a few blocks away from Eugene Simpson Park. The three victims have non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police are searching for the suspect with the help of a helicopter in the area.

Police said the victims and the shooter knew each other.

The Mount Vernon Community school, the Matthew Maury Elementary School, and the George Washington Middle School are all on lock-in because of the police investigation. A lock-in means the doors are locked, and people can’t come in and out of the building.

Police have not released any additional details about the shooting at this time, including the identities of the victims.

Police are asking anyone who sees something suspicious or concerning to call them at 703-746-4444 or 911.
